Lead-Based Paint Abatement Certification Program

Job: Inspector/ Risk Assessor

Training Requirements:

Successfully complete a 40-hour EPD-approved Lead Inspector/Risk Assessment course. Successfully pass course examination.

Education/Experience Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree & 1-year experience in a related field (e.g., lead, asbestos, environmental health, or environmental remediation work). Or;
  • Certification as an industrial hygienist, professional engineer, registered architect and/or certification in a related engineering/health/environmental health/environmental field (e.g. Safety professional, environmental scientist). Or;
  • A high school diploma (or equivalent), and at least 3 years of experience in a related field (e.g., lead, asbestos, environmental health or environmental remediation work).

Job: Supervisor

Training Requirements:

Successfully complete a minimum 32-hour EPD approved Lead Paint Abatement Supervisor course. Successfully pass course examination.

Education/Experience Requirement:

  • One year as a certified lead abatement worker; or:
  • At least 2 years experience in a related field (e.g., lead, asbestos, or environmental remediation work) or in the building trades.

Job: Worker

Training Requirements:

Successfully complete a minimum 16-hour EPD approved Lead Paint Abatement Worker course. Successfully pass course examination.

Education/Experience Requirement:

No experience or education required upon completion of Lead Worker course and successful completion of course exam.
